Nike was out front on creating some of the original experience retail environments many years ago and now they've jumped into pop-up retail. And look for the quotes from Erik Hauser, founder of the IXMA! Here are some excerpts from the article.
Sales-promotion 'pop' culture instant shops: Nike is the latest to employ a new approach to product-sampling: the pop-up store, part of trend to direct communication with consumers.
Nike is trying to get the inside track with Vancouver's runners by using one of the latest trends in the marketing sector -- the pop-up store.
The sports-equipment manufacturer has opened the Nike Runner's Lounge in Vancouver, a temporary location at which the city's athletes can, among other things, rendezvous for a run, get free massages, drinks and snacks and perhaps most significantly, test-drive Nike's line of running shoes.
While there is nothing for sale at the runner's lounge -- if a runner tests a pair of shoes he likes he will have to buy them at a retailer -- Nike sees the lounge as a good way to make inroads in the sport that started the company.
"They're kind of faddy. They're kind of the new thinking right now. They may get some traction to where they stick full time" said Erik Hauser, director of the International Experiential Marketing Association and the founder of San Francisco-based Swivel Media, of pop-up stores.
When pop-up retail is executed effectively, Mr. Hauser said it allows consumers to experience, not only a product but "the essence of the brand."
"The marketing paradigm has really shifted. Dollars that were once slated to go toward traditional media are now being allocated or experiential and non-traditional marketing methods."
Mr. Hauser said the Nike Runner's Lounge, sounds to him that the sporting-goods company has struck the right note. There is also a way not to do pop-up retail, he said.

The period during which a developing fetus is carried within the uterus. In humans, pregnancy
averages 266 days (38 weeks) from conception to childbirth. Traditionally, pregnancy duration
is counted from the woman's last menstrual period, which adds roughly 2 weeks to gestational
age. This is how physicians arrive at a pregnancy length of 40 weeks (280 days).
